A Perfect Example of Design Evolution Instead of Revolution

Coca-Cola Verpackungsdesign Relaunch vorher und nacher

At first glance, what may be the biggest packaging design project of recent months looks surprisingly subtle. And that's exactly what makes it such a valuable lesson for brand owners.

The Coca-Cola Company has refined its global packaging design.

Coca-Cola Sortiment nach dem Relaunch des Verpackungsdesigns

Instead of introducing a dramatic redesign, the focus was on strengthening Coca-Cola's Distinctive Brand Assets:

👉 The iconic red-and-white color palette – consistently applied across all variants and touchpoints

👉 The Arden Square

👉 The Dynamic Ribbon

👉 The classic Spencerian script

The objective wasn't to attract attention—after all, Coca-Cola hardly needs more awareness. Although, thanks to the more consistent use of red, the brand now stands out even more on shelf.

Nor was the goal to strengthen product differentiation. In fact, the individual variants have become slightly less differentiated.

Coca-Cola wasn't trying to create something new.

Instead, the guiding principle was:

"Make Coca-Cola more Coca-Cola."

The result is a clearer, more consistent brand identity across every product, market, and touchpoint.

Iconic brands like Coca-Cola have the privilege—and the responsibility—of reinforcing what already makes them distinctive.

This packaging design relaunch is an excellent example of strategic prioritization, the power of Distinctive Brand Assets, and the importance of a consistent design system.

My Key Takeaway:

Identify the design elements that make your brand instantly recognizable.

Strengthen them.

And apply them consistently across every touchpoint.
