Recycle means to use the used packaging for a new plastic product. If the packaging is not optimally developed, it can only be incinerated.

We consider the influencing criteria in the design process and thus improve the recyclability of the packaging and save natural resources. But we also think in terms of communication and stories that link sustainability to the brand

Today's design development

4 aspects for recyclability

1: Labels

We recommend labels that cover no more than 40% of the bottle surface.

Label material and size have a significant impact on the recyclability of the packaging.

2: Color

White is the new "green" colour. Even colourless packaging increases recyclability and supports the plastic cycle.  The grey veil of recycled plastic becomes a green brand message.

3: Shape

The shape of the packaging influences product and packaging waste: e.g. hard corners and shoulders generate up to 20% more product waste than soft curves.

4: Decoration

Refinements of outer packaging and lacquers influence the recycling of packaging. Metallic finishes or films < 30% of the surface area

Strategic questions for sustainable marketing and design

Sustainable design makes a positive contribution to our society and environment. This means taking responsibility with regard to ecological, economic and social resources.

1: Naming, branding, stories

Can the brand fulfil a green mission or positioning from its core? How can production waste be used for new products that taste and work? How can consumers be motivated to reuse, replenish or repurpose products?

2: Communication and clarity

Icons about sustainability should be simple, intuitive, relevant and useful. The specific placement and expression then lead to a meaningful and purposeful message and transparency.

3: Change behaviour & attitudes

The consumer often does not know what to recycle and how. For example, the instructions for separating paper and plastic on the packaging can be told through intuitive symbols or visuals. At the same time, the brand expresses a clear commitment.

4: E-commerce optimisation

Optimise the outer packaging for e-commerce logistics at the same time. How do you intelligently create secondary packaging that is safe, stable, logistically optimised and celebrates the brand?

Sustainability is an extremely complex topic. Exchange and cooperation with experts is essential.
